YOWZA...

Seriously impressive...

The 300 pound tag might be just a kiss optimistic but any marlin caught on light tackle from a kayak is a serious YOWZA moment!

We discussed this vid on Aquahunters just tonight and I expressed wonder at how little gear they had on board. No tackle, other rods, gaff, racks, live wells, or any of the stuff we go out with. Turns out- they were mothershipping, i.e, got dropped off by a boat. That tarnishes all the luster for me...

As a filmmaker myself, I understand that this sort of video has an element of fiction. They don't exactly hide the camera boat but on the other hand they don't exactly point out it's there...

The fishermen do not have the exposure to danger or mishap that normal folks would have in going for big fish in little boats. Plus if they are tired at the end of the day they don't have to paddle home...

So I agree it is not the accomplishment it could be or is being billed as. Sadly, most real epic man/fish struggles are going to be a private thing and offhand I'd say that is a good thing.

On the other hand... It is still kind of neat to see a guy with light tackle take on a marlin in a kayak even if it is a little fictional.
